Note on Categories
There are three citizen categories, easy lap, one lap, and two lap. The easy lap avoids most of the climb and the most challenging technical riding on the first half of the regular lap. The other citizen cats ride are exactly the same course as everyone else.
If you do not own a Cycling BC race license for the season you can race any citizen class or you can ride sport. If you are a weekend warrior I would advise to ride citizen as this will up your chances of getting a cat prize as compared to riding sport class.
Citizen two lap should not be taken lightly. If you have little experience riding then I might advise that you come for a test ride of the course before you bite off more than you will enjoy. There will be a one lap time cut off that will be determined and posted race day. The time cut off will depend on the course conditions but will most likely be in the 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes range. After the time cut off you will not be permitted to start a second lap due to our limited ability to sweep the course late in the day.
After finding that last year's cut off time being too tight, you can be assured that this year's time will be longer.
Note on Hot Lunch
This year everyone who races will get a hot lunch included in your registration fee. We are still working on the details but most likely the yummy burgers, etc., similar to years previous. If you are a spectator, fan, supporter, husband, wife or mom extra lunches will most likely be available.
IMBA Donation
Again this year we have added the ability for you to add $5 to your registration costs as a donation. We will take this money and give it straight to IMBA, no matter what the bottom line of the race is. Our club once again this year joined as a club for $50 and threw down another $200 as a donation. IMBA is the organization that is out there working for trail access for all of us for the long haul. We have seen really impact of this work locally. If you want a voice, these are the folks to support, in our humble opinion. We hope to donate matching money from the race plus another $500 on top this year.
Note on Registration Costs
The club puts the race on entirely with volunteer hours. We use the small amount of money we make to stay afloat as a club. It costs us about $1500 a year just to exist, and some years we don't even make that off the race. Our volunteers put in literally hundreds of hours of time buffing the course, putting up the website, collecting prizes, getting road permits etc. We do this in part to help pay our club bills but also because we enjoy putting on the race. I guess the basic message is that if the registration costs seem high they are not in relation to the costs we incur to put the event on.
